Please find below some tips that will definitely help you in getting a good search engine page ranking:

• Make sure that other, 'trusted' websites link to your website! This is essential as it is more or less the only way for search engines to even consider indexing your website.
  
  What is a 'trusted' website? The easiest way to check whether a website is popular from a search engine point of view is through the Google™ toolbar. This toolbar has a 'PageRank' indicator. Just visit the website that you want to check. If the PageRank indicator is at least 3 or 4 than you're probably looking at a website that makes sense to get a link from. Where can you find this type of websites ? Consider asking suppliers, resellers and relevant portals for a link. The more links the better but the quality of the links is even more important!
  
  
• As soon as search engines start indexing your website you need to try to get your website on the first page of the search engines as most people who use search engines never go past the first or second results page.
  
  
• Consider using a domainname that contains the most important keywords that people use to find a website like yours. Of course don't make it too complicated for people to remember your domainname.
  Example : cheapsecondhandcars.com
  
  
• The title of the pages is also very important. Try to get some keywords in there as well but don't make your titles too long as the relevance of the keywords goes down in that case. Therefore try to come up with titles of max. 30 characters.
  Example : Cheap second hand cars
  
  
• Consider stuffing some relevant search keywords in the page names. Seperate the keywords with a dash (-) or an underscore ( _ ), otherwise search engines like Google won't be able to index the seperate keywords.
  Example : cheap-second-hand-cars.html
  
  
• A website is about communicating information. Therefore it is important to make sure that the keywords that people use to find a website like yours are also used a couple of times in the text of the pages of your website. Emphasizing text containing the keywords by using <b> and <h1>, <h2>, ... tags can help as well.
  
  
• One picture says a thousands words but doesn't mean anything to a search engine. Therefore it is important to 'help' search engines by describing the picture using the 'alt' attribute of the image.
